2012–13 Memphis Grizzlies season

The 2012–13 Memphis Grizzlies season was the 18th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the 12th for the franchise in Memphis. The season saw the Grizzlies make the Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. Prior to making the Conference Finals, the Grizzlies defeated the Los Angeles Clippers in six games in the First Round, and defeated the top-seeded defending runner-up Oklahoma City Thunder in five games in the Semifinals. However, a four-game sweep to the experienced San Antonio Spurs ended the Grizzlies' season and playoff run. Head coach Lionel Hollins was fired at the conclusion of the season. Led by Marc Gasol, the Defensive Player of the Year, the 2013 Grizzlies held opponents to 89.3 points per game. This is the last time a team allowed under 90 points per game in an NBA season. As of 2022, this is the closest the Grizzlies were to the finals.

2021–22 Memphis Grizzlies season

The 2021–22 Memphis Grizzlies season was the 27th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and 21st in Memphis. On December 2, 2021, the Grizzlies defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder by an NBA record–setting 73 points, with a final score of 152–79; at one point they led by 78 points (148–70) in the final minutes of the game, but the 73-point margin is still the largest margin of victory in NBA history. The previous record was a Cleveland Cavaliers 68–point blowout win over the Miami Heat, 148–80, on December 17, 1991 that game had held the record for nearly three decades. The Grizzlies also set several other franchise records that same night, with points in one single game (152 points) and bench points scored (93 points). The Grizzlies qualified for the playoffs for the second consecutive season after a 133–103 win over the Indiana Pacers on March 25, 2022. They also won the Southwest division title for the first time in Grizzlies' franchise history after a 112–111 win over the San Antonio Spurs on March 30, 2022. They are also the second non–Texas based franchise to win the Southwest Division title since the 2007–08 New Orleans Hornets. The Grizzlies defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in six games the first round, winning their first playoff series since 2015. In the second round, they faced the Golden State Warriors, where they lost in six games.

Memphis Pyramid

The Memphis Pyramid, formerly known as the Great American Pyramid and the Pyramid Arena, is a building located in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, United States, at the banks of the Mississippi River. Built in 1991 as a 20,142-seat arena, the facility was owned and operated jointly by the city of Memphis and Shelby County; Shelby County sold its share to Memphis in April 2009. Its structure plays on the city's namesake in Egypt, known for its ancient pyramids. It is 321 feet (98 m) (about 32 stories) tall and has base sides of 591 feet (180 m); it is by some measures the tenth-tallest pyramid in the world. The Memphis Pyramid has not been regularly used as a sports or entertainment venue since 2004. In 2015, the Pyramid re-opened as a Bass Pro Shops megastore, which included shopping, a hotel, restaurants, a bowling alley, and an archery range, with an outdoor observation deck adjacent to its apex.

Vancouver Grizzlies

The Vancouver Grizzlies were a Canadian professional basketball team based in Vancouver. They were part of the Midwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team was established in 1995, along with the Toronto Raptors, as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. Following the 2000–01 season, the team relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, United States and was renamed the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies played their home games at General Motors Place (now Rogers Arena) for all of their six seasons in Vancouver. Like most expansion teams, the Grizzlies struggled in their early years. The team finished last in their division in five of its seasons, and never won more than 30% of its games in any of the team's seasons in Vancouver. In total, the team won 101 games, lost 359, and never qualified for the NBA playoffs. The two expansion teams were denied early draft picks in the first season, but the Grizzlies secured Shareef Abdur-Rahim in 1996 and Mike Bibby with the 2nd pick of the 1998 draft. The team continued to lose games despite high draft picks.

Vancouver Grizzlies relocation to Memphis

The Vancouver Grizzlies relocation to Memphis was a successful effort by the ownership group of the Vancouver Grizzlies to move the team from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The team began play as the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2001–02 season. It was the first of three National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise moves between 2001 and 2008, and the third of four major league teams to relocate from Canada to the United States between 1995 and 2005. The Grizzlies had been created as an expansion team along with the Toronto Raptors in 1995. For the six seasons in Vancouver, the Grizzlies performed poorly; they only once finished better than last in the Midwest Division and never reached the playoffs. The Grizzlies were owned by Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment, who also owned the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). In 1999, Bill Laurie, owner of the NHL's St. Louis Blues, attempted to buy the Grizzlies, with the intent to move it to St. Louis. After interference by the NBA, the Grizzlies were sold to Michael Heisley.
