1999 Jacksonville Jaguars season

The 1999 season was the Jacksonville Jaguars' 5th in the National Football League and their fifth under head coach Tom Coughlin. Wide receiver Jimmy Smith set a franchise record for most receptions and receiving yards in one season. Smith would finish second in the NFL in receiving yards with 1,636 yards. The Jaguars’ regular season record of 14–2 still stands as their best record in franchise history. This would be the last time Jacksonville made the playoffs until 2005, the last season the team won a playoff game until 2007 and the last time the Jaguars won any division title until they won the AFC South title in 2017. The Jaguars hired former Carolina Panthers head coach Dom Capers to be their defensive coordinator. Under Capers, the team went from 25th in 1998 to 4th in 1999 in total defense. The Jaguars defense yielded the fewest points in the NFL with 217 (an average of 13.6 points per game).Pro Football Reference, however, argues that the 1999 Jaguars had the fifth-easiest schedule of any NFL team between 1971 and 2017. Both regular season losses were to the Tennessee Titans, and they lost again to Tennessee in the AFC Championship Game, making the Titans the only team to beat them the entire season; Jacksonville would not reach the AFC Championship again until 2017. However, the only other occasion the Jaguars opposed a team with a winning record was their demolition of the 9–7 Dolphins in the divisional playoff.

2017 Jacksonville Jaguars season

The 2017 season was the Jacksonville Jaguars' 23rd in the National Football League (NFL) and their first under head coach Doug Marrone. Marrone was hired after acting as the team's interim head coach for the final two games of the 2016 season. The team improved on their 3–13 record from 2016 and ended their 10-year playoff drought dating back to 2008 with a week 15 win over the Houston Texans. They also secured their first winning season since 2007 after a 30–24 win over the Seattle Seahawks. On December 24, 2017, they clinched their third division title, and their first AFC South title following a Tennessee Titans loss. They won the wild card game against the Buffalo Bills 10–3, then headed to Pittsburgh, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 45–42 to advance to the AFC Championship to face the New England Patriots, the first time that they had made the AFC Championship Game since 1999. Despite leading for much of the game, the Jaguars would allow two 4th quarter touchdowns, and ultimately lost to the Patriots 24–20. One of the biggest catalysts for the Jaguars success during the 2017 season was their defense. Jacksonville finished in the top of the league in multiple defensive categories, and were considered "historically good" by some analysts. The Jaguars defense led the league in forced fumbles (17), completion percentage (56.8), passing yards allowed per game (169.9), passer rating (68.5) and defensive touchdowns (7).

2019 Jacksonville Jaguars season

The 2019 season was the Jacksonville Jaguars' 25th in the National Football League (NFL) and their third under head coach Doug Marrone. The Jaguars signed quarterback Nick Foles to a four-year, $88 million contract on March 11, 2019. It was also their first season since 2013 without Blake Bortles on the roster, as Bortles signed with the defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams in free agency on March 18, 2019. Foles suffered a clavicle injury in week 1, and was replaced with rookie Gardner Minshew for the majority of the season. The Jaguars slightly improved on their 5–11 record from the previous season, but were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention for the second consecutive season after a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. This season, the Jags became the first team since the 1986 Tampa Bay Buccaneers to lose 5 straight games by 17 points or more.

2020 Jacksonville Jaguars season

The 2020 season was the Jacksonville Jaguars' 26th season in the National Football League, their eighth and final season under general manager David Caldwell and their fourth and final season under head coach Doug Marrone. With a Week 11 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jaguars dropped to 1–9 resulting in their third consecutive losing season and their ninth in ten seasons. After a loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 12, the Jaguars both failed to improve on their 6–10 record from the previous season and were eliminated from playoff contention for the third consecutive season. They surpassed their loss total from the previous season after an overtime loss to the Minnesota Vikings. On November 29, 2020, the Jaguars fired general manager David Caldwell following a 1–10 start to the season. The Jaguars had the worst record in the 2020 season, and thereby earned the first overall draft pick for the first time in franchise history after a Week 16 loss to the Chicago Bears coupled with a win by the New York Jets. Following their week 17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the Jaguars became the fourth team in NFL history (and the second since the 16-game expansion) to win their season opener but lose their remaining games; the only other teams that accomplished this were the 1936 Philadelphia Eagles, the 1969 Pittsburgh Steelers, and the 2001 Carolina Panthers. The 1–15 record was also the worst in franchise history. On January 4, 2021, the Jaguars fired head coach Doug Marrone, who finished his tenure in Jacksonville with a 25–44 (.362) record.

2021 Jacksonville Jaguars season

The 2021 season was the Jacksonville Jaguars' 27th season in the National Football League. This was their only season under head coach Urban Meyer and first under general manager Trent Baalke. Jacksonville had the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, which they used to select Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars came into the season with a 15-game losing streak from the last season. The losing streak continued this season as the Jaguars started 0–5, before defeating the Miami Dolphins 23–20 in London. To date, the 2020–21 Jaguars' 20-game losing streak is the third longest losing streak in NFL history, after the 1976–77 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (26) and 1942–45 Chicago Cardinals (29). The Jaguars finished 3–14, improving upon their 1–15 record from the previous season. However, they failed to make the playoffs for the fourth straight year following a Week 14 loss to the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars clinched the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, becoming the first team since the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 and 2018 Drafts to have the top pick in back-to-back years. On December 16, after less than a year and following repeated scandals involving the team, Meyer was fired as head coach and replaced with Darrell Bevell for the remainder of the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are a professional American football team based in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jaguars compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. The team plays its home games at TIAA Bank Field. Founded alongside the Carolina Panthers in 1995 as an expansion team, the Jaguars originally competed in the AFC Central until they were realigned to the AFC South in 2002. The franchise is owned by Shahid Khan, who purchased the team from original majority owner Wayne Weaver in 2012.The Jaguars made an early impact in the NFL by qualifying for the playoffs during four of their first five seasons. Between their second and fifth seasons, they made four consecutive playoff runs, two division titles, and two AFC Championship Game appearances. They are the youngest NFL expansion team to appear in a conference championship (by their second season in 1996, along with the Panthers) and clinch their conference's top seed (by their fifth season in 1999). The Jaguars have been less successful since, with only three playoff appearances and one division title since 2000. They are one of four NFL franchises that have never played in the Super Bowl, alongside the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and division rival Houston Texans.
