The Astros won the World Series in seven games over the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first World Series championship in franchise history. On September 17, the Astros clinched the AL West with a 7–1 victory over the Mariners, for their first AL West division title, and their seventh division title overall. The Astros defeated Boston 3–2 on September 29 for their 100th win of the season, their first 100-win season since 1998. Overall, the Astros finished with a 101–61 regular season record, their second-highest win total in franchise history, for a .623 winning percentage. Just four days after the end of the regular season, the Astros met the Red Sox at home in the AL Division Series (ALDS), and defeated them in four games. Houston then advanced to the AL Championship Series (ALCS) and defeated the New York Yankees in seven games for their first American League pennant. Combined with their NL pennant in 2005, the Astros became the first MLB team to make it to the World Series as members of both the National and American Leagues. Finally, the Astros faced and defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2017 World Series 4 games to 3. The 2017 Astros featured the highest-scoring offense in the major leagues (896 runs scored), including the highest batting average (.282), on-base percentage (.346), and slugging percentage (.478). 2019 Houston Astros season

The 2019 Houston Astros season was the 58th season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise in Houston, Texas, their 55th as the Astros, seventh in both the American League (AL) and AL West division, and 20th at Minute Maid Park. The Houston Astros announced after last season that their weekly night games will air on KTRH 740.On September 18, the Astros clinched a postseason berth against the Texas Rangers and became the first team since the 2002–2004 New York Yankees to have three consecutive 100-win seasons, having done so in 2017 and 2018 as well. On September 22, the Astros clinched their third straight AL West title. For the first time in franchise history, the Astros finished the season with the best record in baseball and defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the Division Series by a margin of three games to two. They then defeated the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series (ALCS) by a margin of four games to two, winning the pennant and a trip to the World Series for the second time in three years. However, they were defeated by the Washington Nationals in seven games in the World Series. Despite the World Series upset, this Astros team is still considered to have put together one of the best regular seasons, and most talented rosters, in the history of baseball, owing largely to its historic 107-win campaign, lion's share of season-end accolades, and record-breaking individual stats.Following the season, the Astros led the league with a record six players selected to 2019's inaugural All-MLB Team. Earlier in the year, they also once again sent six players (a franchise record four of whom were starters) to the 2019 All-Star Game, the most from any team in baseball. When including All-Star ace Zack Greinke, who was traded from Arizona to Houston at the July trade deadline, this iteration of the Astros had an eye-popping total of seven 2019 All-Stars on its postseason squad, among the most in baseball history. As such, the 2019 Astros are often regarded as one of the greatest baseball teams ever assembled.

2022 Houston Astros season

The 2022 Houston Astros season is the 61st season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise in Houston, Texas, their 58th as the Astros, 10th in both the American League (AL) and AL West division, and 23rd at Minute Maid Park. They entered the season as both the defending AL and AL West champions, with their 2021 season ended in a loss to the Atlanta Braves in six games in the World Series. The collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the league and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) expired on December 1, 2021. With no new agreement in place, Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred announced a lockout of players the following day. On March 10, 2022, MLB and MLBPA agreed to a new CBA, thus ending the lockout. Opening Day, originally scheduled for March 31, instead took place on April 7, and a full 162-game regular season would be played. Behind Framber Valdez' first Opening Day start, the Astros won for the tenth straight year, which set a modern-day record and tied the Boston Beaneaters (1887–1896) for most consecutive Opening Day victories in major league history. Manager Dusty Baker reached 2,000 career wins on May 3 with a 4–0 win over the Seattle Mariners, becoming the 12th manager to reach the milestone. On May 17, 2022, five Astros batters, Yordan Álvarez, Kyle Tucker, Jeremy Peña, Michael Brantley, and Yuli Gurriel all homered in the second inning versus the Boston Red Sox, tying the major league record with five home runs by one team in one inning. Two Astros pitchers, Luis García and Phil Maton, each recorded an immaculate inning on June 15, 2022, the first occurrence in major league history of more than one immaculate inning pitched on the same day.

The Astros are a member of the MLB's American League, having moved from the National League in 2013. The Astros are one of two MLB teams based out of Texas, the other being the Texas Rangers. The team began with the name of the Colt .45s in 1962 and changed their name to the Houston Astros in 1965 when they began playing in the Astrodome. The team has played in three ballparks in Houston, Colt .45 Stadium (1962–1964), the Astrodome (1965–1999), and, currently, Minute Maid Park (2000–), a stadium with a retractable roof. The Astros hold one World Series title and four pennants (one in the National League and three in the American League).

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team based in Houston. The Astros compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West division, having moved to the division in 2013 after spending their first 51 seasons in the National League (NL).The Astros were established as the Houston Colt .45s and entered the National League as an expansion team in 1962 along with the New York Mets. The current name, reflecting Houston's role as the host of the Johnson Space Center, was adopted three years later, when they moved into the Astrodome, the first domed sports stadium and the so-called "Eighth Wonder of the World." The Astros moved to a new stadium called Minute Maid Park in 2000. The Astros played in the NL West division from 1969 to 1993, then the NL Central division from 1994 to 2012, before being moved to the AL West as part of a minor realignment in 2013. The Astros posted their first winning record in 1972 and made the playoffs for the first time in 1980. The Astros made their first World Series appearance in 2005 but were swept by the AL’s Chicago White Sox. In the following decade, the team embraced sabermetrics and pioneered new analytical technologies during the early 2010s, transforming from a middling franchise into one of MLB's most dominant and successful clubs, winning over 100 games in three straight seasons, although they were central players in a major cheating scandal. The Astros won the 2017 World Series, their first championship, against the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Having been defeated by Boston the following year in the 2018 ALCS, the Astros returned to the World Series in 2019, losing to the Washington Nationals in seven games despite putting together an all-time great, and franchise-best, regular season. On January 13, 2020, Astros manager A. J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were suspended by MLB for one year after an investigation confirmed sign stealing by the Astros during their 2017 World Series campaign; both men were fired shortly thereafter.

Houston Astros sign stealing scandal

The Houston Astros sign stealing scandal resulted from a series of rule violations by members of the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB), who used technology to steal signs of opposing teams during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. For years, some individuals on other teams had suspected the Astros of stealing signs, but there was no public reporting on the subject until November 2019, when reporters Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich at The Athletic published an article detailing the team's activities. Mike Fiers, a pitcher who played for the Astros in 2017, told The Athletic that the organization used a video camera in the center field seats to film the opposing catcher's signals to the pitcher regarding the next pitch. Astros players or team staffers watching the live camera feed behind the dugout used various audio cues, such as banging on a trash can, to signal to the batter what type of pitch was coming next. MLB investigated the allegations and confirmed in January 2020 that the Astros illegally used a camera system to steal signs during the 2017 regular season and postseason, during which they won the World Series, as well as in part of the 2018 season. MLB found no evidence of illicit sign stealing in the 2019 season, in which the Astros advanced to the World Series, but lost in seven games to the Washington Nationals. As a result, Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow and field manager A. J. Hinch were suspended for the entire 2020 season for failing to prevent the rule violations. The Astros were fined the maximum allowable $5 million and forfeited their first- and second-round picks in the 2020 and 2021 drafts. No players were punished because they had been given immunity by MLB in exchange for their cooperation. The Astros subsequently fired both Luhnow and Hinch on the day their suspensions were announced.
