2020–21 NHL season

The 2020–21 NHL season was the 104th season of operation (103rd season of play) of the National Hockey League (NHL). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the regular season was reduced to 56 games and began on January 13, 2021. Due to COVID-19 cross-border travel restrictions imposed by the Government of Canada, the league temporarily realigned for this season, putting all seven Canadian teams into one division. COVID-19 outbreaks caused the games of most teams to be rescheduled beyond the regular season's original end date of May 8, with the last game being moved to May 19. The playoffs began four days earlier on May 15, under a 16-team format with the top four teams from each division. The playoffs concluded on July 7, with the Tampa Bay Lightning defeating the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Finals in five games, winning their second consecutive and third overall Stanley Cup in franchise history.

List of all-time NHL standings for active teams

The following is a list of the all-time records for each of the 32 active National Hockey League (NHL) teams, beginning with the first NHL season (1917–18), with regular season stats accurate as of the end of all games on October 13, 2021 and playoff stats accurate as of the end of the 2020–21 NHL season and 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs. Teams are sorted by the overall percentage of points accumulated out of points available (two times the number of games played) throughout NHL history. In the NHL's points system, a team is awarded 2 points for a win (regardless if earned in regulation, overtime or shootout), 1 point for a tie, 1 point for an overtime loss, and 0 points for a loss. The overtime loss statistic (abbreviated as OT or OTL) was introduced into the NHL's points system in the 1999–2000 season. A commonly used term for the point awarded to a team for an overtime loss is a loser point. As a result of the 2004–05 NHL lockout, which canceled the entire 2004–05 season, the league adopted a shootout to determine the winner of a game which is still tied after an overtime period. This feature, introduced in the 2005–06 season, eliminated ties from the game.

List of current NHL captains and alternate captains

The National Hockey League (NHL) is a professional ice hockey league composed of 32 teams, founded in 1917. Each team may select a captain, who has the "privilege of discussing with the referee any questions relating to interpretation of rules which may arise during the progress of a game." Each team is also permitted to select alternate captains, who serve when the captain is not on the ice. Captains are required to wear the letter "C" on their uniform for identification while alternate captains wear the letter "A"; both letters are 3 inches (7.6 cm) in height. Rule 6.2 of the 2008–09 Official NHL Rulebook indicates that "[only] when the captain is not in uniform, the coach shall have the right to designate three alternate captains. This must be done prior to the start of the game." Many NHL teams with a named captain select more than two alternate captains and rotate the "A" among these players throughout the season.Goaltenders are not permitted to serve as captains during ga
